Jock came in with his laptop this week because it wouldn’t turn on. Time was of the essence as without this laptop he couldn’t begin his holiday. Jock entrusted his laptop to Fix My Tech and we promised to do everything in our power to get it back to him that very same day.

What Happened?
There are many reasons why a laptop won’t turn on. Some of the easiest things to try at home are:
- plugging the laptop in the charge and then switching it on
- Hold the power button for 5-10 seconds, wait 5 seconds, then press the power button once more.
In this case, it appeared that the computer had, at some point, been completely drained of power. This can happen if your computer is put away for a long time. To prevent this ensure that you “shut down” your computer any time you are expecting not to use it for a period greater than a couple of days.
Our assessment concluded that the main board needed to be reset. This does not destroy any of your data. Resetting the main board can be thought of as clearing any brain fog the computer may have built up over the years. Our technician spent the rest of the day running tests on the laptop to ensure consistent performance.
