Missing teams button in Outlook https://fixmytech.com.au/missing-teams-button-in-outlook/ Tue, 05 Sep 2023 01:54:50 +0000 https://fixmytech.com.au/?p=11333 Did your teams meeting button suddenly disappear from Outlook? We see this issue regularly and this article will discuss the most common fixes for a missing teams meeting button in outlook.

The post Missing teams button in Outlook appeared first on Fix My Tech Computer Repairs and Technical Support.

]]>

The most common reason why your Teams button suddenly disappeared from Outlook.

Have you been using the teams meeting button in outlook and it suddenly dissapeared?

The most common reason for the teams meeting button to disappear is outlook has disabled the teams plugin. Outlook checks every time it starts to see if something is slowing it down and will disable the teams button integration.

The fix is really easy, you just have to click on:

 1. On the File tab,
 2. click ‘Manage COM Add-ins’
 3. under ‘Slow and Disabled COM Add-ins’
 4. You’ll see a list of add-ins. Locate the Microsoft Teams entry and click ‘Always enable this add-in’, as shown in the images below, and select ‘Apply’.

I have some images below of step 2 and step 3 so you can see what the clicks should look like. I hope this is helpful. If you need some assistance with your Microsoft Teams please contact us for immediate service.

If this quick fix didn’t work for you, there can be other reasons why teams meeting buttons don’t work. Below I have listed some longer troubleshooting steps you can take or just call us and we’ll fix it for you.

1) Completely remove Teams from you computer and re-install it. Its important to download it again from teams online where there is an option to download the teams for business application.

2)Update your Microsoft office software because if the version is really old then the teams button wont work.

Google have fixed a security flaw in Chrome

It’s a good idea to check if your chrome browser is up to date. There was a chrome update recently which protects you from attack. It’s usually an automatic update but we think you should check you’re up to date as this update is super important.

How do I check if I'm safe?

If you use a Windows computer please check the version number is 114.0.5735.110 or greater.

If you use a Mac please check the version number is 114.0.5735.106 or greater.

 • Open Google Chrome, press the three dots in the upper right hand corner, click “Help” and then “About Google Chrome”.

If the version number is one of the above numbers or higher you are protected. If not, follow step 2.

 • Chrome will automatically check and will tell you if there is an update. Follow the update instructions on screen and chrome will restart.

Where can I find more information?

This attack specifically exploited a type confusion vulnerability which allowed cleverly crafted webpages to send data to the wrong places behind the scenes. This, in some cases, could allow an attacker to run their code on your computer.

Google have confirmed that they have seen this attack being used by hackers already and it has happened to some Chrome users.

You can read more from Google about this issue on their blog by following this link.

Additionally, Malwarebytes put together a nice article on their blog that you can find by following this link.

Get the right Driver

Installing a printer can be daunting at first however it’s actually quite simple. Microsoft directly supports most common printers and just plugging a printer in with a USB cable will get you basic printing functions very quickly.

However, basic functions are usually not enough and your printer might randomly stop working. We recommend using the full drivers from the manufacturer.
The full driver package will unlock all the features of your printer such as scan to email and advanced printing options.

You can download the full drivers directly from the manufacturers websites. You will need to know your printer model number and what operating system you are using such as Windows 7, 10 or 11 or Apple mac version.
Just navigate to the printer model page under drivers and downloads and download the full driver directly from the manufacturer.

Your can use the links below to find the drivers for the most common printer brands.
Brother: https://support.brother.com/g/b/productsearch.aspx?c=au&lang=en
HP: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers
Epson: http://tech.epson.com.au/downloads/index.asp
Canon: https://www.canon.com.au/support

Most driver installers have a wizard which will guide you through the process. If you need help with this feel free to give us a call and we can set it up for you.

How do I connect my Printer to my Devices?

The two most common methods for connecting your printer are directly to a computer with a USB cable (Which cable do I need?) or you can connect the printer to your network.

A direct USB connection is best if you’re only going to be printing from one computer.

A network connection is best if you’d like to print from multiple devices.

A direct USB connection is the simplest and most reliable way to get your printer up and running but it will only work on the computer the cable is plugged into. In this case plug the USB cable (Which cable do I need?) into the port at the back of the printer and the other end into the computer you want to print from and that’s it. After installing the drivers you’re ready to go. This method is great but will only allow you to print from one computer.

If you used this method select “Direct Connection” if the driver installation wizard asks for your connection type.

Setting up a printer as a network printer is the best way to print from multiple devices. There are two ways to connect your printer to your network.

Connecting a network/ethernet cable from the port on the back of your printer to one of the available “LAN” ports on the back of your WIFI modem is the most reliable way to get your printer connected to the network.

If your printer is configured this way select “Network” if your Driver installation wizard asks you to specify the connection type.

Depending on the layout of your space, this method may mean running an ugly cable across the room. If this is the case we recommend using your wireless network (WIFI)

When configuring your printer using WIFI it is best to begin running the driver installation wizard as it will guide you through the process of adding your WIFI network to the printer.

If you choose to connect your printer wirelessly select “wireless” for your connection type if prompted by your driver installation wizard.

Which Cable do I need?

Some printers come with an included USB cable that allows you to connect the printer to your computer.

To connect a printer to your computer over USB you will need a USB type-A male to USB type-B male cable.

The back of your printer will have a port matching one of the highlighted ports below:

If your printer has the port on the LEFT you need a:

USB type-A to type-B 2.0 Cable

If your printer has the port on the RIGHT you need a:

USB type-A to type-B 3.0 Cable

How do I know which Printers are Installed?

You can check which printers are installed on your computer by using the “Printers & scanners” settings page.

Use the search bar on your taskbar to search for “Printers & scanners”

Open up the printers and scanners setting page and you will reach a page similar to this one:

Here you can see a list of all the printers installed on your computer, your list will have different printers.

It’s a good idea to keep this list as tidy as possible by removing any old printers you’re not using anymore.
To do this left click on the printer you want to remove and press “Remove Device”

Some items in the list like “OneNote (desktop)” or “Microsoft Print to PDF” can be left in the list as they support additional features on your computer.

If you have a printer that is not working:

 1. Remove the printer from the list
 2. Restart your computer
 3. Download and install the full driver by following the instructions from the top of this page

Or feel free to give us a call on 9016 5383 and we will be more than happy to give you a hand.

When setting up a new Windows computer you will nearly always be prompted to sign in to your Microsoft account to continue.
What if you don’t have a microsoft account, and what if you don’t want one.
There is a very simple solution and you can avoid messing around with command prompts and code that’s difficult to understand.

Once you reach the prompt to “sign in with Microsoft” simply enter the email address: a@a.com and click “Next”
When asked for a password just leave it blank and press “sign in”.

This will send you to an error message saying “Oops, something went wrong”, that’s exactly what we want.
Now when you hit “Next” you will see a page saying “Who’s going to use this device?”.
Enter the username you want to use for your account, best to keep it short as long usernames have been known to cause issues from time to time.
Enter a password for your computer if you want one and that’s it, you’re now setting up an account without any Microsoft account.

What happens when I need to use my Office 365 apps?

To use the full version of the Office 365 apps (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) you will need to either activate them with a code or sign-in to your Microsoft account.

We will only cover signing in to a Microsoft account in this article.

If you already have a Microsoft account that great you can check that you have an Office 365 subscription by logging in to the Microsoft website and clicking on your profile in the top right hand corner of the page. Then click “My Microsoft account”.

This will take you to a new page where you can purchase a subscription or check if you already have one. On the blue navigation bar at the top of the page click on “Services and subscriptions”. If you have an active subscription it will show up here. If not this is the best place to purchase a new subscription.

Now that you have a subscription you will need to install Office this can also be done from the “Services and subscriptions” page in your Microsoft account. The apps may come pre-installed on your computer, you can check this by searching for “Word” using the search found on your taskbar.

Once you have confirmed the Office 365 apps are present on your computer you can proceed to activate them.

To do this first open Word, you can search for Word on the taskbar if you cannot find it.

Now before opening any documents find the “Account” button in the bottom left corner of the window.

Locate the heading “Sign in to Office” and press the button “Sign in”

Now enter the email address and password associated with your Office 365 subscription.

You will now see this page:

To ensure your computer remains a local user and does not become associated with a Microsoft account it is essential that you press the “Microsoft apps only” option at this step. If you simply hit the next button Microsoft will automatically change your local account into a Microsoft account.

Now all of your Microsoft apps are activated and your computer is still operating with a local account rather than a Microsoft account.

A note on BitLocker Encryption

If you choose to use BitLocker encryption on a device that is configured with a local account it is absolutely essential that you record your BitLocker key somewhere. The key should be recorded somewhere safe and not stored on the computer itself.

It’s the nightmare scenario for any business: a staff member accidentally deleting essential company data. This is exactly what happened to a company in Melbourne recently, but thanks to their partnership with Fix My Tech, the situation was quickly resolved.

How did we fix it?

Less than an hour after the data was accidentally deleted, we arrived on site. Fix My Tech had already implemented a backup system for this company, which meant that the files needed for that day were immediately restored. This was a huge relief for the staff member who had accidentally deleted the data, as well as for the entire team who rely on these files to do their jobs.

However, this was only the beginning of the process. There was still over 100GB of data that had been lost, months and months of work, and this needed to be restored as quickly as possible. Our technician worked throughout the weekend to restore all of the lost data before Monday morning. This was a massive effort, but thanks to the expertise of the technician and the strength of the backup system, everything was restored to its original state.

On Monday morning, it was business as usual for the company. Despite the potentially catastrophic situation, thanks to the strong backup plan put in place by Fix My Tech, there was no downtime, no lost productivity, and no lost revenue. The team were able to continue working as if nothing had happened.

This situation highlights the importance of having a strong backup plan in place. Accidents happen, and when they do, it’s essential to have a plan that can quickly restore lost data. It’s not enough to simply have a backup system in place – it’s also important to have a team of experts who can quickly and efficiently restore lost data. This is where Fix My Tech comes in.

Fix My Tech is dedicated to providing reliable and efficient computer repair services in Melbourne. Our team of experienced technicians can diagnose and repair computer issues quickly and efficiently, ensuring that downtime is minimized and productivity is maximized. We can also provide backup solutions that are tailored to each business’s needs, ensuring that data is always protected and easily recoverable in the event of an accident.

In the case of the Melbourne company, our backup solution meant that the potentially catastrophic situation was quickly and efficiently resolved. Thanks to the expertise of our technicians and the strength of the backup system, the company was able to continue operating as normal, without any lost productivity or revenue.

If you’re looking for a reliable and efficient computer repair service in Melbourne, look no further than Fix My Tech. Our experienced team can provide tailored backup solutions to ensure that your data is always protected and easily recoverable in the event of an accident. We helped Erica in Bentleigh choose a new laptop https://fixmytech.com.au/erica-in-bentleigh-needed-a-new-comp/ Mon, 13 Feb 2023 23:40:25 +0000 https://fixmytech.com.au/?p=10519 If your computer takes ages to load, we recommend reaching out to us, we can help by either refurbishing your old computer or helping you get a new computer fully configured.

The post We helped Erica in Bentleigh choose a new laptop appeared first on Fix My Tech Computer Repairs and Technical Support.

Erica’s laptop was over 7 years old and had been repaired once before, it was running very slowly and needed a lot of work to get it running well. She decided to replace the laptop rather than repair it as a new laptop would work so much better than repairing her 7-year-old laptop.

We helped her choose an excellent laptop in her budget and made sure she got the most “bang for her buck”.

We went by our 8 tips for choosing a laptop: Size, Processor, RAM, Storage, Graphics, Battery, Weight, and Cost. You can read more about our 8 Tips for choosing a laptop here.

Erica’s new laptop was fully configured by our team. We transferred all of her files and programs to the new laptop and made sure it was fully configured. All of her email accounts were connected and we made sure she had some specific software she wanted installed and configured.

Our process was easy, Erica left her old and new laptop in our office for a day and we did everything to make her new laptop work like her old one with everything fully configured for her so she could pick up where she left off.

Buying a new computer is sometimes the best option because a new one can be much faster than a repaired old one. In this case Ericas new computer was 10 times faster than her old one. When pressing the power button the new laptop loads in seconds.

We worked out that Erica will be saving hours every day now that she doesn’t need to wait for her computer to finish loading.

If your computer takes ages to load, we recommend reaching out to us, we can help by either refurbishing your old computer or helping you get a new computer fully configured.
