Google have fixed a security flaw in Chrome
It’s a good idea to check if your chrome browser is up to date. There was a chrome update recently which protects you from attack. It’s usually an automatic update but we think you should check you’re up to date as this update is super important.
How do I check if I'm safe?
If you use a Windows computer please check the version number is 114.0.5735.110 or greater.
If you use a Mac please check the version number is 114.0.5735.106 or greater.
- Open Google Chrome, press the three dots in the upper right hand corner, click “Help” and then “About Google Chrome”.
If the version number is one of the above numbers or higher you are protected. If not, follow step 2.
- Chrome will automatically check and will tell you if there is an update. Follow the update instructions on screen and chrome will restart.
Where can I find more information?
This attack specifically exploited a type confusion vulnerability which allowed cleverly crafted webpages to send data to the wrong places behind the scenes. This, in some cases, could allow an attacker to run their code on your computer.
Google have confirmed that they have seen this attack being used by hackers already and it has happened to some Chrome users.
