The Wanna Cry ransomware virus will lock down your computer and encrypt your files. Once encrypted, the virus will prompt you to pay a ransom fee to decrypt your files. In most cases payment of the fee will not guarantee your files.

This Ransomware spread through a weakness in Microsoft Windows which was formerly exploited by US surveillance agency NSA.

This tool, unfortunately, was leaked in April 2017 and is now being used by hackers behind Wanna Cry Ransomware.

In response, Microsoft released a fix for this vulnerability which can be applied by those who are still safe from Wanna Cry Ransomware.

  1. Back Up your computer Immediateley.
  2. Immediately patch and update your Windows with Microsoft’s recently released fix.
  3. Be careful not to click on harmful links in your emails.

  4. Be wary of visiting unsafe or unreliable sites. Never click on a link that you do not trust on a web page or access to Facebook or messaging applications and other applications.
  5. If you receive a message from your friend with a link, ask him before opening the link to confirm, (infected machines send random messages with links).
  6. Be aware of fraudulent e-mail messages that use names similar to popular services such as PayePal instead of PayPal or use popular service names without commas or excessive characters.
  7. Use anti virus and Always make have the last update.
  8. Make sure your windows system has the last update that closes the gap.
